From a Fatass to a Badass – An Engineer’s Testimony in his Health & Fitness Journey
A true story. Ho Yah Wen is a Software Engineer from Butterworth, Penang. He has lived most part of his adult life doing whatever and eating whatever he likes (e.g. late nights, fast food and mamak stall diet). Eventually, by his early 30s he become obese, with a load of metabolic issues like high uric acid and frequently fall sick. At age 32, he has a waist size of 35 inches and has a body fat percentage of 28%, which is very unhealthy for someone his size.
In 2011, before his work assignment to USA for 6 months, he told his friends that he will return to Malaysia with a 6-packs abs. Everyone laughed at him.
Using the knowledge he gained, he started his fat loss journey with ketogenic diet. At the same time, he started doing High Intensity Interval Training (H.I.I.T) especially Tabata workouts. That helped him to bring his body fat percentage down till 16%. To break the fat loss plateau, he started practicing intermittent fasting and sometimes OMAD (One Meal A Day) to allow the body to utilize more fats as energy. He also did more resistance training in the gym to build his physique. At the same time, he paid a lot of attention to food intolerance and managed his stress levels.
